About this product
Watermelon seeds: flat, medium-sized ovals, light brown with darker flecks and markings. The shell is thin but hard and closes tightly around a small pale kernel. In the bowl they make a warm brown, close to the colour of milky coffee, and feel smooth in the hand.
Taste
Cracking these is a skill kids learn from their parents: stand the seed on its edge between your teeth, snap, and a small, faintly rich kernel comes out. Now and then one is empty; that's seeds for you, toss it and carry on.
How to enjoy it
For long nights and endless talk, in front of the match or with the neighbours, it stays in hand until late. In summer it comes out once the watermelon plate is finished, as if the evening had a second course.
How to store it
A closed tin away from damp keeps the shells snapping cleanly; to firm up the crunch, spread it on a tray for a few minutes in a gentle oven.
